Bawean Deer Distribution Map



The Bawean Deer (Axis kuhlii) is classified as endangered species (IUCN 2006). It lives only in a small island Bawean (19.419 ha). The major threat on this species is human activities including habitat destruction and illegal hunting. The population has divided into three fully separated sub populations, due to habitat conservation into agriculture and housing area. Moreover, illegal hunting reduces the population size drastically.
